CONGRATULATIONS

The American Morgan Horse Association is pleased to induct Mr. Bill Jackson into the AMHA Hall of Fame.

BILL JACKSON

Bill Jackson was born on his family ranch on October 24, 1924. In 1870 his grandfather, Thomas Jackson, settled on the present ranch and had an interest in light horses, predominately Standardbreds. Bill’s father, Joel Jackson, who also was very intrigued by light horses as well as draft horses for farm use, purchased his first registered Morgan Stallion in 1920, Hal Mercury, Jr. This was the beginning of breeding and raising registered Morgan horses. He passed his passions and continuity of the breeding onto his sons, Bill and the late Dean Jackson.

Bill has devoted his life to raising and breeding “Western using-type Morgans.” Bill still works every day of the week on his ranch in the Tobacco Root Mountain Valley, and uses his horses in his day-to-day activities, which include driving, sorting, branding, and calving of his cow/calf herd.

Bill always has persevered through the years to maintain the high quality of his herd. The Jackson Morgans are bred for strength, endurance, intelligence, versatility, and good feet and legs.

Bill and his late wife, Betty, have participated in the American Morgan Horse Association, National Cutting and Stock Horse Association, Pacific Northwest Morgan Horse Association, and the Big Sky Morgan Horse Association. Bill served several years as president of the National Morgan Cutting and Stock Horse Association, and he hosted a farm tour for the American Morgan Horse Association’s 100th birthday.

There are few men like Bill. He is part of an era and way of life that is passing. His kindness, understanding and competence toward horses are truly amazing. He teaches by his calm presence and patience. He says very little but what he says in one sentence, or sometimes just in a grin is worth more than the average person’s words. He was made and shaped by the land he lives in and the horses he has dedicated his life to raising.
